Helmholtz Network Newsletter 01|2021

Dear readers,

The new year continues to be marked by SARS-CoV-2 and so we wish you first of all (continued) good health as well as the strength and resources to meet the current challenges - and yes, to hang in there.

We would also like to recommend our format "Helmholtz Academy online", which we continue on March 3 and where we will tackle the topic of "COVID Fatigue".

With best regards,
Your Talent Management Team at the Helmholtz Association Head Office in Berlin
Korinna Strobel, Julia Eberhardt, Johannes Freudenreich, Mandy Ritsche, Esther Strätz and Irena Wiederspohn

1. Helmholtz Leadership Academy online: "Effective Leadership in Uncertain Times”

Since last July, we have shared and discussed thoughts and ideas on various leadership topics with you in short, regular online formats. We would like to continue the offer in 2021 and hereby invite you to the first edition of our online format for 2021:

COVID Fatigue
In this module we will examine how leaders can detect early signs of fatigue and ways they can help employees to navigate the Covid-19 pandemic in healthy ways with empathy and a human centered approach in leadership.  Furthermore, we will discuss methods of self-care that leaders can practice to avoid symptoms of COVID fatigue themselves.

March 3, 01:30 – 03:30 pm

Please note: We have adjusted the format so as to offer only one session, which will be two hours long. Participation is still limited to 18 people. To register, please send an email to netzwerk(a)helmholtz.de.

Approximately 1 week before the session, you will receive further information. Approx. 2 days before the session, you will receive the invitation link for the zoom meeting. In case of overbooking, we will inform you directly.

If you have any questions, please contact Irena Wiederspohn, Manager Talent Networks, at netzwerk(a)helmholtz.de.

2. Helmholtz Winter Talks Moscow

Since the 10th anniversary of the Helmholtz Office in Russia in 2015, we have organized the annual "Helmholtz Winter Talks". The events each address a current research topic of interest to both sides and offer an excellent opportunity for intensive exchange with our Russian partners and friends from science, industry and society.

Unfortunately, the ongoing Corona pandemic makes it impossible to organize the event in the usual face-to-face format. For this reason, we have decided to organize the 2021 "Winter Talks" in a hybrid format. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (CET) for the German audience as an online livestream.

In addition to an introductory discussion of research policy, we will delve into the topic of quantum technologies. The Helmholtz Association is active in different areas of quantum technology and across all six research fields, having recently published its own quantum strategy. During the "Winter Talks" 2021, high-ranking panelists will discuss the current state of research and venture an outlook into the future.

The online broadcast of the „Winter Talks“ will be available on the Helmholtz page www.helmholtz.de.

If you have any questions about the event, please contact our Moscow office at Moscow(at)helmholtz.de.

3. Helmholtz Young Investigators Groups - Call 2021

In 2021, the Helmholtz Association is once again inviting applications for Helmholtz Young Investigators Groups, which offer internationally outstanding postdocs the opportunity for early scientific independence: Up to 9 junior research groups, which will be awarded in a highly competitive selection process and funded for five years with a total of at least 1.5 million euros.

Information on the call for proposals and the selection process can be found here.

If you have any questions, please contact Julia Eberhardt, Manager Talent Networks, at julia.eberhardt(a)helmholtz.de.

4. Mercator Science-Policy Fellowship-Program

We would like to inform network members from ministries/authorities, media and nonprofit organizations about the current call for applications for the Mercator Science-Policy Fellowship-Program. The program, which is free of charge, allows for interdepartmental exchange with colleagues as well as the opportunity to interact with scientists in the Rhine-Main area.

Deadline for application is April 13. For more information on the program and the application process, please click here.

5. You’ve got News?
