Challenge #94

New vehicle concepts for tomorrow’s mobility.

Lightweight, modular, electronic: we develop low-emission vehicles and innovative propulsion concepts all the way to series production.

Participating centers

Our cities and mobility habits are changing. On the one hand, we want to travel more efficiently, individually and flexibly; on the other hand, we also want to avoid emissions, noise, and heavy traffic.

New propulsion and vehicle concepts offer enormous potential in this respect. At the German Aerospace Center (DLR), for example, we are working on modular, autonomous vehicle concepts; the electronically driven platform U-Shift, for example, can flexibly transport both freight and people. The body of the autonomous UMV can be easily adapted to different model sizes. The SLRV commuter car is especially lightweight and thus conserves resources – and at the same time is also very safe.

We are also working on new propulsion concepts, based on hydrogen for example, and alternative solutions for electric car batteries. We are developing these concepts to the point where they are ready for series production so that they can be adopted by automakers in the future and successfully facilitate the mobility transition.
