After studying chemistry and physics, Claudia Felser earned her diploma in solid-state chemistry from the University of Cologne in 1989 and completed her PhD in physical chemistry in 1994. Following postdoctoral fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart and at CNRS in Nantes, she joined Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in 1996, becoming a full professor in 2003. Since 2011, she serves as Director at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden.

She has received numerous national and international honors, including two ERC Advanced Grants (2011, 2017), the Alexander M. Cruickshank Lecturer Award, an IBM SUR grant, and the Tsungmin Tu Research Prize from Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology. Her achievements have been recognized with the Max Born Prize, the Wilhelm Ostwald Medal, the Blaise Pascal Medal, and the EPS Europhysics Prize (shared with Andre Bernevig). In 2025, she was honoured with the L’Oréal Foundation-UNESCO Women in Science International Award and the E-MRS Professor Jan Czochralski Award.

Her research focuses on designing and discovering advanced materials for computing and energy technologies, particularly Heusler compounds with unique semiconducting and magnetic properties. Beyond research, she is committed to strengthening collaboration between academia and industry and advancing young scientists and women in STEM fields.
