Challenge #112

Sharpening our view of atoms.

We develop high-resolution electron microscopes that set worldwide standards. Researchers can use them to develop new materials.

Participating centers

Be it novel batteries or promising APIs for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, innovative solutions must investigate materials on the atomic or molecular level at some stage. This can only be done with very powerful electron microscopes.

We are driving the development of such devices and designing innovative analytical methods to go with them. We combine these new instruments and methods at Forschungszentrum Jülich, where we are currently building the National Research Infrastructure for Ultrahigh-Resolution Electron Microscopy.

This infrastructure is available to scientists in different research fields, from the life sciences sector to solid-state physics. This will make innovative materials and technologies available to society even faster in the future.
