Digitization is shaping almost all areas of life from leisure to work, and raising many new important questions important in the process. Should technology be smarter than us? That only makes sense if it is truly better than us, right? Many people feel a pressure to keep up because everything is changing so quickly, in part due to AI. The present challenge then is to open up opportunities for people to participate in the digital transformation so that their values, interests, needs, and wishes help from the future digital world. Whether it is carebots or social media, digital health cards or “robot colleagues” at work in the future, it is important to ensure digitization is beneficial for all. This will not happen by itself; rather, it will require scientific research and the development of innovations that is carried out together with society, and not merely for or about it.
