Funding for innovative AI projects - Helmholtz AI Projects 2026 Call
The Helmholtz Association strengthens the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. To this end, it has created Helmholtz AI with the mission of fostering creativity in different fields and identifying and leveraging similarities between applications. Helmholtz AI integrates field-specific excellence and AI/ML prowess and improves the quality, scalability as well as the rapid availability of new methods and tools.
With this seventh round of funding for explorative and innovative approaches in the field of applied Artificial Intelligence, Helmholtz provides resources for researchers at all Helmholtz centers – for a community-wide network in this future-oriented field of research and practice.
The objective of this call for Helmholtz AI projects is to start and facilitate activities that address cross-center challenges and AI methods. It especially aims at innovative projects (high-risk, high-gain) and collaborative projects with inclusion or co-creation with further partners (transfer).
Applications shall be submitted by November 12, 2026 (deadline). All relevant information is contained in the following documents (only available in English), which can be downloaded below. Applications can only be submitted via the following online projects portal
For anyone interested in the call, there will be two virtual information sessions in September and October (details on the dates and how to register can be found on the Helmholtz AI website).
