Professor Dr. Jutta Hanson

Professor Dr Jutta Hanson is Senator of the Helmholtz Association for the research field Energy and heads the Institute for Electrical Power Systems with Integration of Renewable Energies at Darmstadt University of Technology.

Jutta Hanson studied Electrical Engineering at TU Darmstadt from 1989 to 1994 and received her doctorate as Dr Ing. there in 2000 at the Department of Electrical Engineering.

From 1999 to 2003, she worked as power engineer at ABB AG, Mannheim, Power Systems Consulting Department, and was promoted to Head of the Transmissions and Industrial Networks Group within the same department in 2004.

In 2011, Jutta Hanson took up a professorship at the TU Darmstadt and became head of the department Electrical Power Systems with Integration of Renewable Energies. From 2016 to 2018, she was dean of the department Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Darmstadt University of Technology. She is a member of acatech, the National Academy of Science and Engineering, and the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz.

Jutta Hanson’s scientific interests and research are in particular planning criteria for distribution grids taking into account demand side management and storage technologies, transmission technologies for electricity grids (HGÜ/FACTS) as well as grid connection and system services for both regenerative and conventional power plants.
