Dr. Andrea Grimm

Dr. Andrea Grimm is Senator of the Helmholtz Association for the research field Information. Most recently, she was Vice President in various positions in the CIO Organization of the IBM Corporation.

The economist, who received her PhD from Hamburg University, was sponsored by the DAAD as a visiting scientist at Yale University’s Department of Economics from 1982 to 1983. In 1986 she started her career at IBM. Up to 1998 she held various positions in corporate planning and software development in the Stuttgart area, in Paris, in Raleigh (North Carolina, US), and in Heidelberg. From 1999 until 2009, she held senior positions at IBM Europe and IBM UK, such as General Manager, Application Management Services (AMS) for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

From January 2003 to June 2023, she was a member of the supervisory boards of IBM Germany and IBM Central Holding.

In 2010 she took on assignments in IBM’s global CIO Organization, first as Vice President, Business Integration EMEA, and subsequently Major Markets (Europe, USA, Japan; 2010-2013). She was Vice President, Global Infrastructure, Strategy and Compliance (2013-2015), and Vice President, Global Compliance Simplification and CIO Services EMEA (2015-2016).

Andrea Grimm was a Vice President of the German Society for Computer Science (GI) from 1998 to 2002, and in 2002 until 2008 she was appointed to the German Council of Science and Humanities (WR). From 2002 until 2017 she was a member of several WR subcommittees (e.g. accreditation, research infrastructures). Since 2016 she is a member of the Expert Committee for the Excellence Strategy, which is jointly appointed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the WR and promotes research excellence at German universities. 2022 she completed a Master's degree in Science Management at the Technical University of Berlin.
