Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energies

Green electricity - climate-neutral, sustainable and cost-effective: To this end, the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energies (HI ERN) is developing innovative ideas and materials.

The institute focuses on solar energy and researches, for example, printable photovoltaics or innovative methods for chemical energy storage, such as of hydrogen. Such new storage technologies, as well as more efficient transport options and materials, will make solar energy more cost-effective - and thus more attractive for consumers.

To achieve this goal, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin are cooperating in the institute. The Helmholtz Centers are contributing their expertise in the fields of materials research for solar technologies and the production of hydrogen from renewable energies. The Friedrich Alexander University contributes its experience in materials and process research, especially in the research and development of renewable energy systems.
