The reviewers confirmed the signifi- cant scientific and strategic relevance of these programmes and recommended that all the activities in the field of “big data” be more further pooled using an overarching strategy and the interdisciplinary alliance “Large Scale Data Management and Analy- sis”. Financing recommendations for the entire funding period, expressed on a cost basis, total 1,431 million euros, including 54 million euros for PC II financing. The evaluation of the three programmes, which took place between February and April 2014, confirmed the importance of this re- structuring process. Since this research field is closely linked to the development, construc- tion and operation of large-scale devices, one of its programmes is devoted exclusively to technological research. For the entire funding period, the financing recommendations, expressed on a cost basis, total 3,071 million euros, including 1,420 million euros for Per- formance Category II (PC II) financing and 740 million euros for the PC II facilities that are currently under construction.
