More than just Hacking: The CISPA Cysec Lab - Student Lab for Cybersecurity

The CISPA Cysec Lab opened in 2020 in new premises at the St. Ingbert site, just under 10km from CISPA's main building in Saarbrücken. It bundles the student activities of CISPA. We offer half- and full-day workshops in the fields of IT security, computer science and computing for young people from 7th grade onwards, advanced training for teachers and trainee teachers. We also regularly offer working groups for particularly interested and talented young people.

The workshops of the School-Lab are developed in close cooperation with the researchers at CISPA. We place a high value on practical work and independent study of the topics. In addition to learning new content and skills, our interactive workshops offer sufficient freedom to experiment and apply what has been learned.

Workshop topics

Our portfolio of workshop topics is constantly expanding. Currently, we offer three- to four-hour modules, which can be combined into a full-day workshop for school classes from 10th grade onwards. Half-day workshops are suitable for younger participants. All our topics are prepared for different age groups and offer different levels of difficulty. Beginners with no previous experience are just as welcome as advanced students.
Due to Corona, we also offer some of our workshops - such as web security - in digital form, tailored to 90-minute modules that can be easily integrated into everyday school life.

Online platform

The CISPA Cysec Lab team has put together a selection of online tasks and puzzles that allow those interested to explore the different areas of cybersecurity for themselves at their own pace: challenge.saarland.

Topics at a glance:

  • Web security
  • Mobile security: app design, permissions, and points of attack
  • Social media
  • Career information: Careers in IT security
