Climate Change and Technology Assessment

Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag (TAB)

The Office for Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag (TAB) is an independent scientific institution that advises the German Bundestag and its committees regarding scientific and technical change. For this purpose, TAB mainly produces research and technology-related studies and carries out technology assessment projects. Additionally, TAB observes and analyses important scientific and technical trends and related social developments. TAB is geared towards the information needs of the German Bundestag and its committees. It has carried out more than 140 studies to date. The results of these studies are publicly available. The Institute of Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will continue to operate the office during the new contract period from 2013 to 2018. Since September 2013, KIT has collaborated with UFZ, the Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment (IZT), and VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH.

Climate Offices

The four climate offices of the Helmholtz Association and the Climate Service Center support decision-makers in assessing risks and opportunities and in developing strategies relating to climate change. The list of clients of the climate offices is long and ranges from other research institutions, educational institutions, politics, authorities, and administration to the media and private sector, NGOs, and private individuals. Many users are looking for data, climate models, or projections, but also have questions regarding current events around the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), or climate policy. Other requests concern the search for experts to perform assessments or consultations in politics and business.
