Training and education opportunities in Information & Data Science

Artificial intelligence, software development, IT security – Information and Data Science is one of the keys to modern cutting-edge research. The demand for information and data scientists is great in all scientific disciplines. The new methods and tools, however, have not yet been entirely integrated into the curricula of universities and other institutes of higher education. Helmholtz intends to correct this situation with a basic and continuing training initiative.

The initiative arose from the Helmholtz Incubator and is supported by the entire Association, its Centers, and its strong partner universities. The Helmholtz Information and Data Science Schools offer attractive programs for doctoral students and postdocs. The Helmholtz Information and Data Science Academy (HIDA) serves as an Association-wide connecting element. The course offerings bring expert scientists up to speed on the use of the latest information and data technologies.

Find out how Helmholtz further expands its expertise in the field of Information and Data Science.

Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA)

Pooled Information and Data Science knowledge and a comprehensive basic and continuing training platform for doctoral students and postdocs: This is the Helmholtz Information and Data Science Academy (HIDA).

HIDA offers ideal conditions for young data scientists from all areas of research: interdisciplinary, connecting, and always focused on Information and Data Science. As a central forum and innovation hub, HIDA facilitates the exchange of expertise between all of the Helmholtz Centers and research fields.

HIDA connects the six regional Helmholtz Information and Data Science Schools and ensures exchange between them. This allows HIDA to offer customized cross-regional basic and continuing training for doctoral students and postdocs from all research fields. To this end, Helmholtz is also further expanding its cooperation with leading universities. New Information and Data Science methods and technologies are exchanged, adapted, and jointly refined in the process. HIDA collects, pools, and publishes existing training measures from all the Helmholtz Centers and Data Science Schools and offers its own activities.

The Berlin HIDA office is part of the Helmholtz Head Office in Berlin. It is intended as a meeting place for issues concerning basic and continuing training in Information and Data Science. We facilitate exchange and networking regarding data science throughout Helmholtz.
