The Foundation “House of Little Research Scientists”

Children don’t need much encouragement to start doing research – the entire world is their laboratory. When a girl pumps up a ball, she is also learning something about air pressure. And, when a boy pours water from one cup to another, that’s pure physics.

Research field trips through the natural phenomena of everyday life

The charitable foundation “House of Little Research Scientists” is dedicated to high-quality science education for three to ten year olds. The “House of Little Research Scientists” provides nationwide support for professionals in pedagogy and teaching staff in promoting the spirit of discovery in children, and accompanies them through their research efforts.

The workshop content is genuinely scientific experiments and research concepts are related to children’s everyday lives and can be performed with simple materials.

Meanwhile, the “House of Little Research Scientists” has become the largest early-training initiative in Germany. Foundation partners are:

  • the Helmholtz-Association,
  • the Siemens Foundation,
  • the Dietmar Hopp Foundation,
  • the Deutsche Telekom Foundation
  • and the VW Autostadt in Wolfsburg.

The “House of Little Research Scientists” is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

More than 230 network partners nationwide

The “House of Little Research Scientists” works together with more than 230 national network partners. Their regional training sessions have been attended by educators from more than 25,000 daycare facilities, after-school care centres and elementary schools. More than 4,400 facilities have been certified as “House of Little Research Scientists”.
