In 2016, the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) and the Helmholtz Association signed an agreement for three joint calls to support a total of 18 bilateral projects that will each run for three years. The Helmholtz-RSF Joint Research Groups program establishes a privileged partnership between the Helmholtz Association and the Russian Science Foundation. The aim of the funding program is the identification of common research interests between the Helmholtz Centers and leading Russian scientific institutions. A special focus area is the promotion of young scientists in both countries.
A total of three calls for proposals are scheduled to take place between 2017 - 2019, each leading to six jointly funded projects. The Initiative and Networking Fund of the Helmholtz Association supports each selected project with a maximum amount of 130.000 EUR/year for a total funding period of three years. The first call for proposals covered the topic areas ‘Biomedicine’ and ‘Information and Data Science’. The second call for proposals dealt with the research topics ‘Climate Research’ and ‘Energy Storage and Grid Integration’. The current and therefore last call takes place in the areas of ‘Materials and Emerging Technologies’ and ‘Structure and Dynamics of Matter’.
