Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Plischke

Professor Dr Wolfgang Plischke is a member of the Helmholtz Association’s senate for the research field “Health”. He served on the management board of Bayer AG until 2014, where he was responsible for technology, innovation and sustainability and for the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, he took over as head of Bayer HealthCare in 2013.

The biologist, who received his PhD at Hohenheim University, started his career with the Bayer subsidiary Miles Diagnostics. In 1995, he became director of Bayer Yakuhin Ltd. in Japan. In 2000, he then took over the Pharmaceuticals business group, first in North America and, two years later, for the whole of Bayer AG. In this position, he was responsible for the pharmaceuticals market for prescription medicines worldwide. From July 1, 2002 until his appointment to the Bayer management board, he was a member of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee and headed the Pharmaceuticals division. As a former board member, he became a member of the board of trustees of the “Bayer Science & Education Foundation”.

Outside the Bayer Group, Plischke was a member of the Fund of the Chemical Industry, and chaired the Voice of German Industry’s (BDI) commission on the “Healthcare Industry”. Furthermore, he was vice-president of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) and chaired the research and innovation programme of CEFIC.

Today he is, inter alia, a member of the boards of the Walter-Siegenthaler-Gesellschaft and the Robert Koch Foundation and currently chairs the supervisory board of Evotec.

In July 2011, Dr Plischke was appointed honorary professor for industrial chemistry at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU).
