N² - The Network of Networks
Who we are
In March 2017 Max Planck PhDnet, Helmholtz Juniors and Leibniz PhD Network released the official letter and created the "Network of Networks" called N² (N squared). It promotes and deals with every topic of doctoral researchers in the non-university research sector.
Our objectives and agenda 2017/18
The German university landscape has been in a state of radical change for several years and with it the graduate or doctoral phase. The doctoral phase in Germany is in need of improvement, and as representatives of the interests of doctoral researchers, we consider our task to take part in the education and research reforms, to foster Germany’s position as an internationally attractive location for study and research.
With regard to the current situation of doctoral researchers, our political activities will cover four topics: Working conditions, career development, supervision and equal opportunities. In 2017/2018 N² will work on these concrete goals:
- Asking 100% compensation for full-time work and genuine working contracts until PhD defense
- Replaced stipenda-based employment by contract based, to end financial discrimination of scholars in terms of health insurance, pension funds, social security
- Improve the doctoral researcher’s career development by demanding more opportunities for gaining transferable skills
- Establish the idea of a lively transition between academia and non-academia through internships during PhD
Establish supervision agreements for doctoral researchers in all the non-university research institution
