Helmholtz Calls for Applications

Cooperation with the world's best researchers is a key objective of the Helmholtz Association's international activities. To this end, the organisation has established the Helmholtz International Fellow Award, which targets outstanding senior scientists and research managers based outside Germany who have excelled in fields relevant to the Helmholtz Association, including science management at large international research institutions.

This new funding instrument is intended to strengthen scientific collaboration between Helmholtz Centres and research institutions abroad. Furthermore, they especially aim at giving young researchers the chance to increase their experience of international projects.

Helmholtz International Research Groups

Talented young academics who have completed a promising doctoral thesis can take advantage of a new Helmholtz Association programme designed to help them further develop their scientific excellence effectively.

Helmholtz Postdoc Programme

One element of the Helmholtz strategy for junior researchers is the establishment of independent Young Investigators Groups. Top junior scientists are granted independence early on, with good conditions for research and secure career prospects ('tenure track') based on proven scientific achievements.

Young Investigators Groups - Networking with Universities

Helmholtz-CAS Joint Research Groups - Jointly supported with funding from the Initiative and Networking Fund of the Helmholtz Association and the International Cooperation Fund of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The aim for this HCJRG programme is to support the jointly identified cooperation projects with mutual interests and scientific excellence.

Helmholtz Virtual Institutes either initiate or extend cooperation between universities and Helmholtz Centres. Research groups from universities and Helmholtz Centres unite their resources and capacities within these Virtual Institutes and then work together in the pursuit of concrete strategic research goals.

Der Wissenschaftspreis des Stifterverbandes - Erwin Schrödinger-Preis zeichnet herausragende wissenschaftliche oder technisch innovative Leistungen aus, die in Grenzgebieten zwischen verschiedenen Fächern der Medizin, Natur- und Ingenieurwissenschaften erzielt worden sind und an denen Vertreterinnen und Vertreter mindestens zweier Fachrichtungen mitgewirkt haben.
