Vergeben für interdisziplinäre Forschung durch die Hermann von Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren
Der Wissenschaftspreis des Stifterverbandes - Erwin Schrödinger-Preis zeichnet herausragende wissenschaftliche oder technisch innovative Leistungen aus, die in Grenzgebieten zwischen verschiedenen Fächern der Medizin, Natur- und Ingenieurwissenschaften erzielt worden sind und an denen Vertreterinnen und Vertreter mindestens zweier Fachrichtungen mitgewirkt haben.
Der Wissenschaftspreis des Stifterverbandes - Erwin Schrödinger-Preis wurde der Hermann von Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren vom Stifterverband für zunächst 5 Jahre zur Verfügung gestellt. Der Preis ist mit bis zu 50.000 EURO dotiert. In der Verwendung des Preisgeldes sind die Preisträger frei. Der Preis wird jährlich im Rahmen der Helmholtz-Jahrestagung offiziell übergeben. Die erste Preisverleihung erfolgte am 25. November 1999. Nach Ablauf der fünfjährigen ersten Vergabeperiode hat der Stifterverband beschlossen, den Preis in unveränderter Form weiterzuführen, jedoch von einem einjährigen auf einen zweijährigen Vergabeturnus überzugehen. Die Helmholtz- Mitgliederversammlung hat daraufhin beschlossen in den Zwischenjahren den Preis zu dotieren, so dass im Einverständnis mit dem Stifterverband der Preis weiter jährlich vergeben wird: abwechselnd dotiert vom Stifterverband und der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft.
Preisträger können (mindestens zwei) Einzelpersonen oder auch Personengruppen sein. Die ausgezeichneten Arbeiten sollen mindestens teilweise in einem Helmholtz-Zentrum entstanden sein. Ihr erfolgreicher Abschluss sollte nicht mehr als 5 Jahre zurückliegen.
Vorschlagsberechtigt sind die Mitgliedseinrichtungen der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft vertreten durch ihre Vorstände. Es können auch mehrere Vorschläge pro Zentrum abgegeben werden.
Die Wiederholung von Vorschlägen ist zulässig. Die Vorschläge sind mit den jeweiligen Wissenschaftlichen Räten der Helmholtz-Zentren abzustimmen.

Da die Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft im Zuge der Realisierung der Chancengleichheit bestrebt ist, die Sichtbarkeit der Leistungen von Frauen im wissenschaftlichen Bereich zu erhöhen, werden die Vorschlagsberechtigten gebeten, in besonderem Maße geeignete Wissenschaftlerinnen bei ihren Vorschlägen zu berücksichtigen

Helmholtz-Russia Joint Research Groups

The Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) are currently supporting 14 bilateral research groups through their joint programme “Helmholtz-Russia Joint Research Groups (HRJRG)” out of two joint calls (first call in 2007, second call in 2008). In December 2009, the president of the Helmholtz Association, Jürgen Mlynek, and the chairman of the council of the RFBR, Vladislav Panchenko, decided to launch a third call.
The third call for the Helmholtz-Russia Joint Research Groups will be open from 28 February to 31 May 2010. Up to six Helmholtz-Russia Joint Research Groups will be selected for funding.
The Helmholtz-Russia Joint Research Groups are designed to intensify scientific co-operation between the Helmholtz Research Centres and Russian scientific institutions and universities in order to set new impulses in current research programmes of the Helmholtz Association. A special focus lies in the promotion of excellent young Russian scientists, post-docs and PhD students, and in their involvement into the multinational research projects and infrastructures steered by the Research Centres of the Helmholtz Association.
The Helmholtz-Russia Joint Research Groups are funded by the Helmholtz Association for a duration of three years with 130,000 euros per year. The RFBR co-funds the Russian partner institute and/or university with 1,000,000 RUB (approximately 24,390 euros) per year.

Young Investigators Groups - Networking with Universities

In its mission statement, the Helmholtz Association defines the promotion of individual and talented young scientists as one of its key objectives. With the establishment of Investigators Groups, the Association aims to provide the best foreign and domestic junior researchers with excellent working conditions in a research-oriented environment. Researchers are granted independence early on, with secure career prospects ('tenure track') based on proven scientific achievements. Investigators Group leaders are expected to work closely with university partners. In this way, they can experience the advantage of cooperating with important strategic partners, in an environment where a division of tasks is aimed at a common goal. At the same time, they obtain the opportunity to gain teaching experience and acquire the qualifications for a higher academic career.
Target Group
This call is directed at top foreign or German junior researchers, 2 - 6 years after they have been conferred their doctorate (child-rearing periods will be taken into consideration) who would like to participate in a Helmholtz programme. The candidates must have completed a continuous 6-month research period abroad during a doctorate or a post-doctorate phase. The most important selection criterion is the outstanding quality of the applicants.
Applicants should contact the Helmholtz Centres directly via the given contact persons. Applications may only be submitted via the Centres' boards to the Helmholtz Association's Head Office. Direct applications to the Head Office will not be accepted.
