Technology Transfer 10/2012
In 2011, the Helmholtz Association centres were again able to successfully transfer their research results to be applied in the broader context of society at large, politics and the industry. We report on the Helmholtz-Siemens Energy Workshop and furthermore on the Helmholtz-Roche Research Day and the Innovation Days coming up in November 2012. more

Six New Spin-off Projects Chosen for Helmholtz Enterprise Funding
During the 15th selection meeting of the spin-off funding instrument Helmholtz Enterprise in May 2012, the selection committee recommended six new technology-based spin-off projects to receive funding from the Initiative and Networking Fund. The projects thus receive up to 100,000 Euro each from the Helmholtz Enterprise funding instrument to support the critical starting phase of a spin-off company. Together with the same amount...more

Knowledge and Technology Transfer within the Helmholtz Association – the Current Balance
Many people have been active in transferring knowledge and technology within the Helmholtz Association also in this past year. Be it via publications and lectures, via articles in the media or in the context of political consulting – the transfer of knowledge into society has been a successful practice of Helmholtz scientists for a long time. This is augmented by all activities regarding the transfer of...more

Helmholtz Centre spin-offs
Not every Helmholtz spin-off can expect to achieve success as rapidly as SULFURCELL Solartechnik GmbH. Founded in 2001 as a spin-off of what is now the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH, the company currently employs over 250 people, and in early 2011 it was able to attract funding of €18.8 million from important investors in a new round of financing, despite the difficult economic climate. But many of the spin-offs of recent years have...more
Technology Transfer 2010/11
The knowledge and technology transfer at the Helmholtz Association on which we report on this special page several times a year takes many forms: From the so-called "transfer via heads" - for example by a scientist from a Helmholtz Centre changing to a commercial enterprise - to policy advice and dissemination of socially relevant findings - for example in the form of publications or events - all the way to cooperation projects, licensing agreements with companies or spin-offs. The latter...more

The launch of ViaLight Communications GmbH on 1 October sees yet another company joining the group of start-up projects selected for Helmholtz Enterprise funding. Four other start-up teams already availed themselves of the annual grant on 1 August and 1 September, and another will be joining them in 2010. Along with ViaLight Communications GmbH, the planned “ELiSE GmbH” has also received an allocation, meaning that six start-up projects have received grants in the current round of selections....more
