Systemic Analysis of Multifactorial Diseases

In the health research programme Systemic Analysis of Multifactorial Diseases, scientists work together on interdisciplinary research platforms to shed light on the genetic and biomolecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of multi-factorial diseases with the aim of finding new approaches to treatment.

As an outstanding infrastructural facility at the Helmholtz Zentrum München – German Research Center for Environmental Health, the German Mouse Clinic plays a key role in this endeavour.

In addition, the centre offers an ideal research environment thanks to its experience with genomic, proteomic and metabolomic technologies, and with the analysis of small molecules and mouse models. The programme’s primary aim is to identify individual risk factors and biomarkers that can help doctors in the early detection of major chronic illnesses such as diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, and metabolic, pulmonary and immune diseases.
