How does Marie Curie Fellowships work

Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships (IEF)

This action provides financial support for advanced training and trans-national mobility, for a period of 12-24 months, for individual projects presented by experienced researchers* from Member States or Associated Countries in liaison with a host organisation from a Member State or Associated Country.

At various stages of their career, experienced researchers may welcome an opportunity to acquire new research skills or experience working in other sectors. Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships for Career Development specifically aim at helping experienced researchers to have individual position in research and advance their career in a multidisciplinary field.

Researchers can be of any nationality but as a general rule must move from one Member State or Associated country to another in order to carry out the project. Hence mobility within Turkey, Italy, Denmark, Germany and France is eligible!!!

IEF proposals are welcomed from all areas of scientific and technological research.

* Experienced researcher means that researcher must have either a doctoral degree or at least 4 years’ full-time equivalent research experience, after obtaining a degree permitting him/her to embark on a doctorate.

Marie Curie Career Integration Grants (CIG)

Many researchers currently working around the world would consider getting a stable position in a European academic or industrial institution. The new Career Integration Grant is intended to improve considerably the prospects for the permanent integration of researchers who are taking up, for the first time, a stable post in Europe.

CIG applicants must be experienced researchers from any country in the world, with at least 4 years’ full-time research experience or a doctoral degree. Researcher must have been actively engaged in research, but he/she cannot have carried out work in the country of the host organisation for more than twelve months over the last three years.

The Career Integration Grant is a flat rate contribution (25.000 per year) towards the research costs. These may, for example, contribute to the salary costs of the researcher or other staff employed for the project, travel costs, consumables, patent costs and/or publication costs. The grant will cover a period of 2 to 4 years and must be used within this period.

If the grant application is successful, the Research Executive Agency will sign a grant agreement with the host organisation in Europe. The host will then provide researcher with an employment contract (if one does not already exist), on the basis of which it is expected to pay the salary and ensure the integration for at least the duration of the grant. The host organisation must be a university, a research centre or an enterprise in an EU Member State or Associated Country such as Turkey, Italy, Denmark, Germany and France.

CIG proposals are welcomed from all areas of scientific and technological research.
