Helmholtz Work Placement Programme
Closing date for applications: 15. Mai 2013
The Helmholtz Work Placement Programme offers young leaders in science and administrative or technical experts working at Helmholtz Centres a chance to spend several months at one or more other institutions, expanding on and developing their skills. It aims to address the increasing importance of outstandingly educated and qualified technical and administrative personnel at the Helmholtz Association. The programme will complement existing placement programmes at Helmholtz Centres, government ministries, and the Helmholtz Association head office.

The programme will focus on funding work placements in institutions abroad to ensure participants gain experience of working in an international context. Applicants may also receive funding for placements in Germany in certain cases if good reasons can be given.
The selected participants will be released on sabbatical by their Helmholtz Centres for up to twelve months, with continuing payment of salary, in order to allow them to complete work placements at ministries or other research and scientific institutions. The individual placements should be between three and twelve months long. Each participant should spend at least six months on placement – if they wish by carrying out two three-month placements at two different institutions.
Target group
The programme intends to help systematically manage talented individuals at different stages in their careers, and is aimed at two groups in particular:
- Young leaders in science who can develop their skills and qualify for more advanced management tasks by completing a targeted work placement at, for example, an institution abroad
- Specialists at a later stage in their professional career who could benefit from an opportunity to refresh and augment their knowledge
Application process
The deadline for applications is 15 May 2013. During the first phase of the application process, the individual Helmholtz Centres will handle the applications directly.
