"Air-writing": Character Recognition on the Wrist

Writing messages simply into the air instead of laboriously typing them in using a mobile phone's tiny keyboard – impossible? A development by Christoph Amma, doctoral candidate at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), soon could render this notion a reality. The air-writing glove allows to write in the air as if on an invisible blackboard or invisible writing pad. Acceleration and rotation sensors attached to the glove translate these hand movements into script, a computer system picks up the essential signals and translates these into text.
