Water Quality of German Rivers

The sound chemical and ecological condition demanded by the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) probably cannot be achieved by 2015 in large German water bodies. This is the result of a study by the University Koblenz-Landau, the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ and the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg. Over a period of ten years, data from the four largest rivers in Northern Germany was evaluated: Elbe, Weser, Aller and Ems.
