Eva Luise Köhler Research Award Offered
For the fifth time and in close cooperation with the German Alliance for Rare Diseases ACHSE e.V., the Eva Luise and Horst Köhler Foundation for People with Rare Diseases awards a prize endowed with 50,000 Euro for research projects dedicated to rare diseases.
About 4 million people in Germany are affected by rare diseases. A disease is considered rare, if less than 5 of 10,000 persons show the specific disease pattern. Some diseases are so rare, that only very few people in Germany are affected.
The Eva Luise Köhler Research Award is intended to enable the implementation of or, rather, provide the initial funds for a research project in the field of rare diseases focusing on the benefits for the patient.
The closing date for applications for this research award is 3 October 2011. On 28 February 2012, the prize will be awarded to the awardee or awardees during a festive event in Berlin. Scientists interested in submitting their work can find detailed information regarding the application as well as the application forms under www.achse-online.de.
In 2006, the former Federal President Horst Köhler initiated together with his wife the Eva Luise and Horst Köhler Foundation for People with Rare Diseases. In close cooperation with ACHSE e.V., an association under the patronage of Eva Luise Köhler, the foundation supports research in the field of rare diseases. ACHSE e.V. is a network of more than 100 patient organisations representing children and adults with chronic rare diseases and their relatives.
