Karsten Beneke New Member of the Research Centre Jülich Executive Board:

Since September, Karsten Beneke is the new Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and head of infrastructure at the Research Centre Jülich. He thus succeeds Dr Ulrich Krafft, who left Jülich as of 1 September 2011 to return to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Karsten Beneke studied economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, where he researched in the capacity of teaching assistant until 1987. After his commitment in the Committee of Enquiry "Technikfolgenabschätzung" (Technology Impact Assessment) of the German Bundestag, the economist worked at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, where he was made head of division in 1995. In 1999, Beneke became head of the main department Strategy and International Relations at the German Aerospace Centre in Cologne-Porz, where he was made Director of Space and Transport in 2002. Prior to his new office at the Research Centre Jülich, Karsten Beneke was State Secretary for Federal and European Affairs and federal government representative for the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Until 2010, he headed the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia.
