Berlin Scientist Awarded ERC Starting Grant:
The physicist Prof. Dr Emad Flear Aziz, scientist at the Helmholtz Centre Berlin (HZB) and at the Freie Universität Berlin, is being distinguished with an "ERC Starting Grant" awarded by the European Research Council (ERC). The grant comprises funding totalling 1.5 million Euro and is the HZB's first ERC Starting Grant. With this grant, the young scientist can advance the examination of functional materials over the course of the next five years. Aziz's research subject is called "Structure and Dynamics of Porphyrin-Based Materials in Solution vs. Interfaces". In addition to the ERC grant, the Helmholtz Association funds Aziz's research with another 250,000 Euro.
