In Brief
Membrane Technologies and Bioeconomy
The new portfolio topic of "Gas Separation Procedure for CO2-free Fossil Fuel Power Plants" unites four Helmholtz centres and four universities in the joint research on membrane technologies for the separation of CO2. The Helmholtz Association funds the project with 3.5 million Euro per year up until 2014. The portfolio topic "Sustainable Bioeconomics" is funded with a total of 13.5 million Euro up until 2015. In the context of this project, five Helmholtz centres, seven universities, one Fraunhofer institute as well as the Deutsches Biomasse Forschungs Zentrum (DBFZ - German Biomass Research Centre) investigate how added value from biomass can be managed in an economically, ecologically and socially sustainable manner. Subsequently all portfolio topics will be further pursued in the context of the Helmholtz Research Programmes.
