Mathias Noe New ESAS President:
Prof. Dr Mathias Noe, expert for superconductivity, has been elected as the new president of the European Society of Applied Superconductivity (ESAS). Noe is the director of the Institute for Technical Physics (ITEP) and deputy spokesman Topic 3 - Energy Storage and Energy Distribution at the KIT Energy Centre. In addition he holds a professorship for technical applications of high-temperature superconductivity at the KIT. The ESAS was founded in Frankfurt in 1998 and currently counts some 800 members. Essential goals are strengthening the European position in applied superconductivity, its representation on social, scientific, industrial and political platforms as well as the promotion of information and communication in the research field of applied superconductivity. For the achievment of these goals, the ESAS supports, amongst other things, the organisation of conferences, including the European Conference on Applied Superconductivity (EUCAS). The ESAS moreover initiates and supports European research topics and projects in this field of application and promotes the participation of young scientists in conferences and workshops.
