Efficient Exascale Computer
The partners within the European Mont Blanc Project concentrate on the development of a novel computer architecture with a performance in the exascale range yet using 15 to 30 times less energy than currently employed supercomputers. Exascale computers are to be able to perform one quintillion arithmetic operations per second. The new project is coordinated by the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre and receives funding by the European Commission totalling 8 million Euro. The German supercomputing centres involved in this project are the Research Centre Jülich and the Leibniz Computer Centre at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Garching.
