Federal Cross of Merit for Ulrich Gensch

Dr Ulrich Gensch was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit First Class (Officer's Cross) of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Ulrich Gensch, who lives in retirement since 1 June 2011, was the Representative of the DESY Directorate in Zeuthen for 13 years from 1998 onwards. Before this period he worked in Hamburg for three years as director of a DESY department. The physicist now received the Federal Cross of Merit for his outstanding contributions to Germany as a country of science and industry. Amongst other things, Gensch supported and promoted the integration of the Institute for High-Energy Physics (IfH) of the GDR's Academy of Sciences into DESY. With his dedication he gave the institute a clear and promising development perspective and, at the same time, contributed visibly and effectively to strengthening the DESY’s potential as a world-wide leading user laboratory and a renowned, multiple award-winning training centre.
