Hector Research Award Goes to Jürg Leuthold
Prof. Dr Jürg Leuthold from the KIT is one of this year’s winners of the Hector Research Award and now belongs to the group of so-called "Hector Fellows". This year, three outstanding scientists from German Universities of Excellence were granted the Hector Research Award and each endowed with 150,000 Euro. With its award, the Hector Foundation II with headquarters at Weinheim acknowledges both the seminal research achievements of the natural scientists and their general attitude as university teachers. The physicist Leuthold, who has been conducting research and has been teaching at the KIT since 2004, is an expert in the field of high-speed data transmission. Swiss by birth, Leuthold heads the Institute of Photonics and Quantum Electronics as well as the Institute of Microstructure Technology (IMT) at the KIT.
By granting the award to three scientists each year since 2009, the donors Josefine and Hans-Werner Hector wish to promote mutual support amongst the laureates and to bring the natural sciences closer to the attention of the public.
