Supercomputers Through Graphics Processors
The new GPU Computing Cluster JUDGE now has started operations at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre. The cluster consists of 54 IBM iDataPlex nodes, supporting 108 graphics processors of the type NVIDIA Tesla M2050. The aim is to increase the current peak performance of supercomputers of about one petaFLOP per second by the factor 1000 to one exaFLOP per second by the end of the decade whilst avoiding the simultaneous increase in energy consumption.
In addition to data analysis and simulations based on large sequences of datasets in the field of biology and neuroscience, JUDGE is to further advance the so-called ensemble simulations in climate and atmosphere research.
