KIT Executive Board Member Takes His Leave:
Dr Alexander Kurz, Vice President for Finance and Business Affairs at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology until May 2011, is the new Senior Vice President Personnel and Legal Affairs at the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft as of June 2011. Between 1989 and 2000 he held various positions at the Research Centre Karlsruhe in the legal department, as a member of the executive board and ultimately as head of the personnel department. He then went on to work at the European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN in Geneva. In April 2005 he was made Commercial-Administrative Director at the Society for Heavy Ion Research (today GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research). In addition he was responsible for legal and administrative issues in the context of the establishment of the international large-scale project FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), which is being implemented in Darmstadt, Germany. In 2007, he returned to the Research Centre Karlsruhe as Commercial Director and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board. He contributed decisively to the research centre's merger with the University of Karlsruhe to form the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT. As of October 2009, Kurz held the post of Vice President at the newly established KIT.
