Research Vessel Polarstern Embarks for Arctic Ocean

In the middle of June, the Alfred Wegener Institute's research vessel Polarstern embarked on its 26th expedition to the Arctic Ocean. More than 130 scientists from research institutes from six countries participate in three legs of the journey. First, oceanographers and biologists investigate at long-term research stations how the ocean currents as well as fauna and flora change in the region between Spitsbergen and Greenland. As of August, physical, biological and chemical changes in the Central Arctic are to be evaluated. The FS Polarstern is expected to return to Bremerhaven on 7 October.
