Dr Stefan Krause Wins the Award for Comprehensible Science 2010:

The Award for Comprehensible Science 2010 was awarded in Geesthacht. Dr Stefan Krause from the University of Hamburg was awarded the first prize endowed with 2,500 Euro for his paper "Wie schreibt man die Weltliteratur auf eine Briefmarke? Von tunnelnden Spins und magnetischen Inseln zur neuartigen Festplatte" (How to inscribe the world's literature on a postage stamp? From tunnelling spins and magnetic islands to a novel hard drive). Since 1996, the Award for Comprehensible Science is awarded to young scientists for their PhD theses, who at the same time display a talent for imparting the highly complex research results in a compact and comprehensible manner. Seven young scientists gained entry to the final round, during which they were given the opportunity to present the theme of their doctoral thesis within eight minutes in an exciting, precise and comprehensible manner to approximately 250 visitors and the five members of the jury. The second prize endowed with 1,500 Euro went to Dr Dominik Paquet from the DZNE for his paper "Alzheimer im Aquarium - Wie Zebrafische bei der Demenz für Durchblick sorgen" (Alzheimer's in the Aquarium - How Zebrafish Achieve Clarity in Dementia). The third prize and 1,000 Euro went to Dr Miriam Weber from the Hydra Institute for her paper "Auf der Spur des Korallenmörders" (Tracking the Coral Killer).
