Two Years of Wunderkammer Wissenschaft: Summary and Outlook

When the planning of the concept began in 2006, there was considerable doubt whether a travelling exhibition featuring large and moving pictures from the world of science could hold its own. These doubts now are dispelled with:

Since September 2009, the Wunderkammern or cabinets of scientific curiosities from the world of Helmholtz research successfully travel the length and breadth of Germany. Already now more than 200,000 visitors have marvelled at the exhibition. In 2011, the exhibition toured cities including Jena, Cologne, Leipzig, Bielefeld, Potsdam, Paderborn, Hanover and Mannheim. The tour plan for 2012 is well filled with Stuttgart, Dresden, Aachen, Nürnberg, Cottbus, Ulm and Saarbrücken. Enquiries for 2013 have been coming in as well.

Visitor surveys have provided proof that the concept of capturing attention by way of images works well: On average, 82% of visitors have come away from their visit to the exhibition with an overview of the Helmholtz Association and and insight into its research.
