Wendelstein 7-X: The Circle Now Is Closed

The Greifswald branch of the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics is the site of the present creation of the nuclear fusion experiment Wendelstein 7-X, which is to demonstrate the suitability of stellarator type fusion devices as power plants. Five pre-fabricated, almost identical magnet modules form a coil ring to contain the fusion plasma. In autumn 2011, the last module was implemented and the ring was closed. Until the facility's start of operation in the middle of 2014, numerous connection pieces for supply, observation and heating of the plasma as well as the internal fittings of the plasma vessel need to be mounted. Moreover, the plasma heaters, power supplies, cooling facilities etc. need to be connected with the basic device. The time lapse film illustrates the installation work between October 2009 and May 2011.
