Let’s Talk Science:

Young researchers from the natural sciences, medicine and technology use the stage to win over the audience's enthusiasm for their field of research within three minutes and in a manner not only educating but entertaining.

FameLab requires expert knowledge and creativity to explain one's research field to the audience and jury and to win them over. The stage is governed by a strict PowerPoint ban. However, chain saws, sirens or cuddly toy slippers are used on occasion to convey to the audience a bit of complex science in a manner that is easy to understand.

The Helmholtz Association is not only represented with four research centres (UFZ, Helmholtz Zentrum München, GFZ and KIT) functioning as local joint event hosts, but young scientists from several Helmholtz centres have already actively participated in the competitions in the previous year. This year, competitions will be held in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg/Berlin, Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein.

FameLab is a world-wide competition with seven German-language regional competitions in Germany at the beginning of 2012 and a national finale in Bielefeld. To gain the international FameLab crown, the competition moves on to the Cheltenham Science Festival taking place in June in the United Kingdom. This is where the FameLab model was developed and since then exported to more than 20 countries by the British Council.

Dates, locations and contact details for FameLab on site and impressions from the 2011 competition can be found under
