HZI Scientist Wins "Hauptsache Biologie" Prize:
Kristina Branz, newspaper freelancer at the Braunschweiger Zeitung, and Dr Siegfried Weiß, Head of the Research Group Molecular Immunology at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, won the main prize in the scientist-journalist competition "Hauptsache Biologie" (Main Point Biology) with their article "Forschung: Salmonellen als Helfer im Kampf gegen den Krebs" (Research: Salmonella Helping in the Battle Against Cancer), that was published by the Braunschweiger Zeitung.
Since 2002, the competition awards prizes to outstanding publications in local or regional German-language daily newspapers from Germany, Austria or Switzerland (print and online edition). One prerequisite for participation is the cooperation between scientist and journalist. The competition is to promote the conveyance of scientific topics to a broader public. With regards to topics, the submitted article is to deal with biology as a modern life science for mankind. The main prize is endowed with 10,000 Euro.
