First German Senology Association Science Award:

Dr Christina Reufsteck is the recipient of the first science award granted by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Senologie (DGS - German Senology Association). The prize is endowed with 5,000 Euro. Reufsteck, who has earned her doctorate within the research group "Toxicology and Chemotherapy", accepted the award on behalf of a paper jointly prepared by German and Israeli scientists (in the context of a cooperation project between the German Cancer Research Centre and the Israeli Ministry of Science and Technology). Christina Reufsteck has researched breast cancer cells in which certain genes connected with the formation of metastases had been deactivated. She observed that after deactivating these genes, cell migration was restricted with the result of causing fewer skeletal metastases in the rat model.
