New Battery Material for Electric Vehicles

An new approach to battery architecture has been developed at the KIT's Institute of Nanotechnology. In doing so, the Karlsruhe researchers base their work on  iron-carbon storage materials. Mixing these with a lithium salt and subsequent heating results in a nano structure infused with carbon wire. Thereby storage units and conducting paths are created in one and the same process. The new material can store twice as much energy as common lithium-ion batteries.
