New Helmholtz Podcasts

The organ by which we breathe is just as important as the air we inhale: The lung. We breathe around 18.000 times every day. However, what we inhale is not always healthy. In our March podcast, listen to how Dr Melanie Königshoff from the Helmholtz Zentrum München and her research team investigate the lung's repair mechanisms.

The April podcast deals with the influence of water on health. In Bangladesh, an estimated 35 to 77 million people poison themselves with arsenic-contaminated groundwater. Prof. Dr Hauke Harms from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Leipzig checks the arsenic content in the water and together with international researchers has developed a test to quickly and reliably determine the arsenic content. For this work Dr Harms and his interdisciplinary team were awarded the Erwin Schrödinger Prize.
