Brain Tumour Due to Single Gene Defect
A defect in a certain gene is responsible for triggering the most frequently occurring brain tumour in children. Researchers from the DKFZ and the Heidelberg University Hospital showed in the mouse model that cells with this defect receive a permanent growth signal and therefore keep on dividing over and again. In order to develop new treatments, the scientists now can conduct a targeted search for agents deactivating the growth signal in affected mice.
