Remapping the brain
Researchers at the Jülich Research Centre have shown that previous ideas about the location of language in the brain need to be revised. By analysing the distribution of functionally important molecules, they have demonstrated that the Broca’s area consists of many unknown segments and is more complex than was once assumed. Until now the Broca’s area has been considered the motor centre for speech. Our ability to form phonemes and words is thought to be controlled there.
