Bremerhaven awards Gotthilf Hempel and Jörn Thiede

The city of Bremerhaven has awarded the Freedom of the City to Emeritus Professor Gotthilf Hempel, 81, and Professor Jörn Thiede, 69, for their services to Bremerhaven as a centre of science. The unanimous decision by the city council to grant them the city’s highest honour recognises the contribution they have made to successfully developing Bremerhaven as a location of scientific research. Both scientists have played a decisive role in shaping the AWI since its foundation.
