Winners of the Competition "Wissenschaft verstehen" 2010 Nominated
Markus Kraus from the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ was placed second amongst this year's three winners of the competition "Wissenschaft verstehen" (Understanding Science). His lecture dealt with the purification of polluted air by way of an energy-saving radio wave procedure. Third prize went to Julia Walter from the Department of Conservation Biology at the UFZ for her presentation of unusual connections between extreme weather events and herbivores.
With the competition "Wissenschaft verstehen", the UFZ and the Association of Friends and Supporters of the UFZ (Freunde und Förderer des UFZ e.V.) aim to promote young scientists' popular scientific discussion of their dissertation subject. The competition was held for the third time in 2010 after 2006 and 2008. It will be continued in a two-year rhythm.
