In Brief
New: IPP Flip Book
With the electronic flip book "Hot in here!" a plasma discharge in the ASDEX Upgrade fusion device in Garching can be visualised almost in real time: After some ten seconds all is over also at the laboratory. The measuring instruments will then have recorded everything the researchers want to know about the behaviour of the 100 million degree hot plasma.
The electronic flip book "Complicated but promising!" is much faster than the real process: CAD drawings of the fusion device Wendelstein 7-X summarise the individual assembly steps in fast motion. The research facility currently is being built at the IPP Branch Institute Greifswald. After its completion scheduled for 2014, Wendelstein 7-X will be the worldwide largest device of the stellarator type.
