New CSO/CIO at the KIT:
Juling is CSO and CIO: As Chief Science and Information Officer (CSO/CIO) Prof. Dr Wilfried Juling is a new member of the extended Executive Board of the KIT. In his function as CSO, Juling will, amongst other tasks, supervise the Departments of Mathematics and Informatics and his sphere of responsibility includes also the KIT Focus COMMputation. As CIO he is responsible, amongst other things, for the integration and co-ordination of all activities in the fields of information and co-ordination as well as for the implementation of new information technologies at the KIT. >From 1970 to 1976, Juling studied mathematics at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH), earned his PhD degree there in 1982 with a dissertation in the field of fluid mechanics and gas dynamics and afterwards worked as research associate at the data processing service centre of the RWTH Aachen. In 1992 he was called to a professorship for super and parallel computing at the Department of Informatics at the University Rostock and at the same time became head of the university data processing centre there. In 1998, the Technical University Karlsruhe appointed him director of the data processing centre and head of the Chair of Computer Systems and Infrastructure of Information Processing at the Faculty of Informatics. Between 2008 and 2010 he was managing director of the Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC), the joint Information Technology Centre of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) after the merger of the University of Karlsruhe with the Research Centre Karlsruhe. Juling was and is a member in numerous national and international scientific advisory boards and committees. This includes his membership in the IEEE, in the selection committee of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation and between 1999 and 2005 in the Commission on Computer Systems of the German Research Association DFG. Since 2006, he is chairman of the board of the High Performance Computing Competence Center Baden-Württemberg. He represents the KIT as a member institution in the German Gauß Allianz – GA e.V. and is a member of the research association Forschungsverbund Wissenschaftliches Rechnen Baden-Württemberg.
